New research into femicide – the murder of women – published by the Medical Research Council shows that:
Women are most at risk of being killed by a current or ex intimate partner: 60% of women murdered in 2020/21 were intimate-partner femicides.
Gunshots were the leading weapon used to murder women in 2020/21; 2 to 3 women were shot dead every day, the majority by an intimate partner.
